Visita al centro storico con aperitivo alla veneziana

Portogruaro, “la piccola Venezia” come la definì Ippolito Nievo, è una cittadina nata sulle sponde del Lemene, un fiume calmo e pittoresco.

Sorta nel XII secolo come centro di raccolta dei prodotti agricoli dei dintorni nelle terre amministrate dal Vescovo di Concordia, nel 1420 venne annessa alla Repubblica di Venezia, la quale influenzò in maniera notevole la struttura architettonica e l’atmosfera urbana, facendone il più importante porto fluviale della regione. Ancora oggi, gli edifici sono in stile veneziano e i numerosi canali e ponti del centro storico la fanno assomigliare alla Venezia dell’entroterra.

Accompagnati da una guida locale, cammineremo tra le vie e calli del centro, tra i suoi tipici palazzi dallo stile veneziano.

Dopo un’immersione nel verde nel parco cittadino, troveremo la Villa Comunale: un edificio della metà del Cinquecento in stile rinascimentale. Ci immergeremo nel centro storico proseguendo il tour verso gli antichi Molini. I mulini di S.Andrea sono stati motore e sostanza dell’antica economia cittadina e ora rappresentano uno degli scorci più suggestivi della città. Passeremo sotto al terzo campanile più pendente d’Italia e visiteremo il Duomo di Sant’Andrea con i suoi affreschi, per poi continuare la visita del centro tra le calli e le suggestive piazzette.

Le vie del centro, come tutti i giovedì mattina dell’anno, saranno ricche di bancarelle di ogni tipo ed espositori per tutti i gusti.  Qui si incontrano i sapori della Venezia Orientale, tra i formaggi tipici e i salumi d’annata, gli ortaggi e la frutta della campagna produttiva, il miglior artigianato locale e l’ingegno nordestino. Alla fine della visita potrete degustare un buon aperitivo in stile veneziano e addentrarvi tra le vie di Portogruaro per visitare il grande mercato.

Portogruaro, a visit to the historic center of the town called the “little Venice” and its local market with venetian aperitif

Just a few km from the beautiful beach resorts of Caorle and Bibione, Portogruaro is a town suspended between Middle Ages and Renaissance, called the “Little Venice” by the famous writer Ippolito Nievo, best known for his novel “Confession of an italian” (widely considered the most important novel about the Italian Risorgimento), built on the banks of the “Fiume Lemene”, a calm and picturesque river, offering enchanting views.

Built in the 12th century as a collection centre of the agricultural products of the surrounding lands administered by the bishop of Concordia, the town was annexed in 1420 b.C. to the Republic of Venice, which greatly influenced its architecture as well as its lifestyle and its general atmosphere.

Accompanied by a local expert guide, you will discover the magnificent buildings still maintaining their Venetian style and the numerous canals and bridges making the town look like a little Venice in the hinterland.

After an immersion in the green of the beautiful town park, you will see the Villa Comunale: a building of the mid-sixteenth century in Renaissance style.

The next stop of the tour is at the unmissable ancient mills of St. Andrea, which were the beating heart of the ancient economy and now represent the most evocative views of the town.

You will discover then the third most leaning bell tower in Italy as well as the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea with its beautiful frescoes.

As every Thursday morning, the streets of the centre will be filled with stalls of every kind and exhibitors for all tastes. Here all flavors of Eastern Venice come together: from the typical cheeses and vintage cold cuts to the wide variety of fruits and vegetables from Venetian productive countryside and to the products of the local handicraft and north-eastern wit.

So, at the end of this amazing tour you will enjoy a tasty Venetian aperitif and plunge into the colourful traditional market, where you will have the chance to do some shopping as well, if you wish!
